Penglipuran (or Desa Wisata Penglipuran) is a traditional Balinese village known for its beautifully preserved layout, pristine walkways, and rows of identical gates that make your photos look effortlessly symmetrical — even if you’re usually awful at framing.

But don’t let the aesthetics fool you. Penglipuran isn’t some theme park dressed up to look “authentic.” It’s a living, breathing village where locals actually live, run their businesses, and still follow centuries-old customs. It’s calm. Peaceful. And yes, weirdly satisfying to walk through.

And before you ask — yes, it’s won awards. Multiple. For cleanliness, sustainability, and cultural preservation. Basically, it’s Bali’s overachiever.

Before departing, ensure that the route and mode of transport are clear so that you arrive on time at this traditional village in Bangli.
  • Alamat: Jalan Penglipuran, Kubu, Bangli. Lokasinya di Kabupaten Bangli, bukan di Ubud.
  • Navigasi: buka Google Maps dan cari “Penglipuran Village”.
  • Jarak: dari Kuta ±53 km.
  • Penglipuran ↔ Kintamani: ±45–60 menit berkendara, tergantung lalu lintas.
  • Rute ringkas: Bypass Ngurah Rai → Bypass Ida Bagus Mantra → Bangli.



Best Time to Visit Penglipuran

Choose the time of your visit for greater comfort and better photos.

Time 

  • Morning 08:00 AM–10:00 Am: soft light and a calmer atmosphere.

  • Afternoon 10:30 AM–02:30 PM: usually the busiest time. Avoid this time if you want to take photos in a more comfortable setting.
  • Afternoon 04:00 PM–05:30 PM: warm light, fewer visitors.
  • Weekdays are generally quieter than weekends.
  • Weather: the dry season is most comfortable. Bring an umbrella and non-slip footwear.

During Ceremonies & Holidays

The inner area of the temple is closed to the public. Visitors are only allowed in the public area.

Follow the instructions of the pecalang (traditional security officers). The complete rules are listed in the Visiting Etiquette section.

Village Festival (Annual)

Generally in the middle of the year. Example for 2025: Edition XII on 10–12 July (reference example).
